Gulab Jamuns

Here is the recipe for one of my favorite Indian sweets that mom used to make quite often when we were young - Gulab Jamuns! 💖

Ingredients:

Makes 10 large jamun balls or 15 small jamun balls

Jamun Balls:

8 tbsp milk powder (Nido/Everyday)
1 tbsp flour
1 tbsp liquid ghee
1 tsp baking powder
1 egg
Oil for deep frying

Sugar Syrup:

2 cups sugar
2 cups water
1 pinch cardamom powder

Method:

Make the sugar syrup by combining the sugar and water in a pan. Add the cardamom powder and let it simmer. You can also add 1 tsp of cardamom essence instead.

In a mixing bowl, combine the milk powder, flour, and baking powder. Add the egg and ghee, and knead into a dough.

Roll the dough into balls of the required size.

Fry in oil over low flame until the jamuns are golden brown.

Transfer into the sugar syrup.

Tip #1: To change this to a vegetarian version, replace the egg with 2 tbsp yoghurt

Tip #2: Frying the jamun balls over high flame will cause them to brown soon and may leave them uncooked on the inside.
