Butter Cookies
So I found this recipe online and decided to give it a try, and it instantly became a hit with the kids. Very simple to make too! Mind the calories though!
Ingredients:
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
2 2/3 cups flour
2 tsp vanilla essence
1/4 tsp salt
Sprinkles
Method:
In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and the sugar.
Beat in the eggs and vanilla essence until well incorporated.
Sift in the flour and salt, and mix till the dough is even.
Chill the dough and baking tray for at least an hour.
Pat into cookies of the required size. A piping gun can also be used. Top with sprinkles.
Bake in a preheated oven at 400 degrees F or gas mark 6 for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges have started to turn a golden brown.
Remove from the baking tray and allow to cool.
Tip #1: Alternate toppings I tried that work great include sugar crystals and chopped nuts. I tried raisins, but they didn't turn out that great.
Tip #2: Please ensure to chill the dough in the fridge (especially if you live in a tropical region), otherwise it becomes really hard to work with.
Tip #3: Make sure to remove them from the baking tray before they cool down, once they cool down in the tray they crumble more.
