Poached Pears in Red Wine
This is a random recipe I found online when I was back in college, and the whole concept of cooking with wine fascinated me so I wanted to give it a go. And to be honest, it turned out better than expected. This is a very simple recipe that can easily be executed in under 30 minutes.
Ingredients:
2 cups red wine
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup orange juice
2/3 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence
4 pears, sliced
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup orange juice
2/3 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence
4 pears, sliced
Method:
Pour the wine, water, and orange juice into a saucepan.
Add the vanilla essence and bring it to a boil while stirring.
Reduce the heat and allow to simmer.
Add the pears to the saucepan and cook for 10-12 minutes over a low flame.
Let it cool.
Serve plain or with cake and whipped cream drizzled with the red wine syrup.
