Gooseberry Wine
Gooseberry wine is something you can always find in our cupboard. It is a traditional sweet wine that has a lot of health benefits. It is usually made using gooseberries, sugar, and water, but we make it with just two ingredients - gooseberries and honey.
Ingredients:
1 liter honey
1 piece ginger (optional)
Method:
Wash and dry the gooseberries.
Put the gooseberries into a large glass container with a lid, and pour the honey in, to cover all the gooseberries.
Close the container and let it sit for at least 60 days to allow it to ferment.
After the 60-day period, you will see that the gooseberries have all shriveled up.
Remove the gooseberries, sieve the wine, and store it in glass bottles. The longer you allow it to mature, the stronger it gets.
Although most recipes call for discarding the gooseberries, you can slice up the gooseberries, sun-dry them and use them as a snack (My husband loves them!).
Tip: The traditional recipe uses a sugar-water mixture of 1 cup sugar for 1 liter of water instead of the honey.
