Homemade Naan

Growing up, naan has always been one of my favorite North Indian foods, especially the ones my mom makes at home as they are softer and less 'rubbery' than the restaurant versions. This simple, quick and delicious recipe is amazing for dinner time. You can even refrigerate and warm it on a pan again and it will still taste amazing!

Ingredients:

1 cup flour
1 egg
1 tbsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 tbsp ghee
1 tbsp yogurt (optional)
water to mix (if needed)
1 grated carrot
1/4-1/2 cup chopped coriander leaves
1/2 tsp black/white sesame seeds
ghee for frying

Method:

Mix the grated carrot, chopped coriander, and sesame seeds, and set aside.

Mix all the dry ingredients and wet ingredients separately.

Combine the dry and wet ingredients and knead to form a dough.

Roll the dough into balls. Flatten and spread out each ball of dough using a rolling pin.

Press some of the carrot-coriander mix onto the top of the fattened naan dough.

Spread some ghee on a non-stick frying pan, and fry each piece of flattened naan dough over high heat till it starts puffing up all over. Spread more ghee over the naan before flipping and frying again.

Serve warm with any Indian side dish. I specifically love how this goes with a butter chicken gravy, paneer butter masala, or malai kofta curry.

Tip: Spreading some butter or garlic paste over the naan while frying will give you the butter naan or garlic naan variations.
